NCT: Your Ultimate Guide to the Units

If you think about NCT, what do you think of? That they have a lot of members and who is who? Well, don’t be scared—we can actually help you a bit with finding your way through the NCT units.

NCT U

To begin, NCT's debut date was April 9, 2016. Their first song was called The 7th Sense. The first unit to be formed was NCT U, which originally consisted of Taeyong, Jaehyun, Mark, Ten, and Doyoung. NCT U is a flexible meaning members can switch from time to time. For example, when Resonance came around, all members of the group made a song under NCT U, even if they weren't in the usual lineup. An example of this is Universe (Let’s Play Ball). The members in this song were Doyoung and Jungwoo (127), Mark and Haechan (127 and Dream), Jeno and Jaemin (Dream), Xiaojun and Hendery, and YangYang (WayV), and Shotaro (former member now in Riize).

NCT 127

In the same year, another unit was added to the roster: NCT 127. 127 refers to the call number for Seoul. The members consisted of Haechan, Jaehyun, Mark, Taeyong, WinWin, and Yuta. Later, Johnny and Doyoung were added. After a while, WinWin left NCT 127 to promote with the new Chinese unit WayV. Therefore, Jungwoo was added to the lineup. Taeil left in 2024.

NCT Dream

NCT Dream was also added to NCT in 2016 with a graduation system, meaning that once members reached a certain age, they would move to another subunit. After Mark was removed due to this system, the fans (NCTzens) requested for the Dreamies to be a fixed unit, and Mark was put back in (thank goodness!). Now, the members of NCT Dream are Chenle, Haechan, Jaemin, Jeno, Jisung, Mark, and Renjun.

Wayv

In 2018, SM debuted another unit called WayV. This unit is Chinese and makes songs in Chinese, though they do have Korean versions. The members are Hendery, Kun, Lucas, Ten, WinWin, Xiaojun, and YangYang. In 2021, WinWin and Lucas both went on hiatus, with WinWin returning in late 2022/2023, and Lucas going solo in 2024.

NCT Wish

Lastly, SM announced the final unit of NCT, NCT Wish. This is a mix of Japanese and Korean members, with most of the members being Japanese. NCT Wish consists of Sion, Riku, Yushi, Jaehee, Ryo, and Sakuya.
